HR & payroll questions

What is a PEO, and how is it different from a payroll company?

A payroll company just pays your staff. A PEO becomes a co-employer, so it also handles benefits, HR compliance, workers' comp and payroll taxes, often with access to better group rates.

Will my employees still work for me?

Yes. You keep full day-to-day control of your team. The PEO shares employer duties only for payroll, benefits and HR administration.

Can a small practice offer good health benefits?

Yes. Through a PEO, a small practice is grouped with many other employers, which can open up plan options and pricing usually reserved for larger companies.

Do I need an HR person for a practice with 10 employees?

You need HR coverage, but not necessarily a full-time hire. Handbooks, leave rules, onboarding and terminations all carry legal risk, and outsourced HR covers them for less than a salary.
